Imli Description:
Imli is under the same ownership as Tamarind in Mayfair, so expectations are high, and you are not disappointed. The menu, divided into sections like Light and Refreshing, fish and seafood, pork and beef, and so on, includes all the favourites: mushroom tikki kebabs; a bulgur wheat, yellow beans and watercress salad in a garlic-lemon dressing; and a seafood platter of garlic prawns, squid and salmon fishcakes. Preparations are imaginatively conceived and well cooked and with such a choice the idea of ordering a whole slew of dishes to share is a very attractive one. The top Indian restaurants are now among the most stylishly decorated in the capital and Imli is no exception. It's a large space and combines antiques and contemporary objects with bright splashes of colour. Service can be chaotic at times. Freshly made juices or Indian beers are ideal, or go for the moderate wine list. There's a good children's menu and periodic special offers. There are good lunchtime deals: 2 tapas £5.95; soup and wrap £6.50; lunch platter £7.95.
