belowzero Description:
The idea of drinking vodka in below-freezing temperatures, having put on suitably arctic over-clothes, was novel when the Absolut Icebar first opened, and nobody thought it would stay the course. But it has, and the adjoining bars and restaurants have also made their mark. Apart from the freezing bit, there are a couple of other bars (you can eat lunch and tasting plates in the Wolf Bar and Reindeer Lounge) and the Moose dining room where a contemporary European menu rules. Try duck liver tart with caramelised onions and fresh porcini mushrooms or seared scallops on cauliflower with a light curry foam to start, followed by poached salmon in a langoustine bisque, or something from the grill. The cooking is surprisingly good in view of the fact that customers still come here for the novelty value rather than the food.
