Ba Shan Description:
Ba Shan stretches over several floors and is made up of a series of small rooms decorated with a motley mix of bird cages, wooden screens, plastic vegetables and lanterns. While the menu offers more conventional Szechuan dishes, rice and noodle dishes, the new inspiration here is xiao chi ("small eats") inspired by the street sellers of Chengdu. So try preserved Asian radish with sesame oil, dumplings of all kinds like Szechuan wontons, the famous guotie from Xi'an (often called pot stickers), perhaps a salad of five spiced beef, and vegetable dishes like stir-fried water spinach with chilli and Szechuan pepper. It's a delightful experience and different from the usual Chinatown fare.
