Cascades Grille & Sushi Bar Description:
Cascades is perched on a plateau of flagstone above Ka'anapali Beach at the Hyatt Regency, and the view is right up there with the best of them. The servers are attentive and informed. Sit outside to soak in the sunset and the seascape from Lahaina to Molokai. You can't beat the ambience, but what keeps us coming back is the food. For starters, we recommend the lobster-mango summer rolls or for the hungriest of diners, Cascades pupu platter offers a sampling of summer rolls with furikake-crusted black tiger prawns, pan-seared jumbo lump crab cakes, sweet Maui onion rings and barbecue baby-back ribs with a guava glaze. The chef's fresh catch is offered with your choice of five different preparations, including baked with macadamia nut panko crust and beurre blanc or hibachi-style with mirin soy glaze and wasabi aïoli. But if it's meat you're after, we recommend the rib-eye, grilled with local lavender and a Hawaiian sea salt rub, and served with Hamakua mushrooms, spinach and tomato flambéed with saké and Chardonnay. The wine list is surprisingly barebones but if you're particular, ask for the list from sister restaurant Son'z Maui. For dessert, try the coconut crème brûlée served inside an edible coconut shell.
