If you're staying at the Kapalua Resort, or anywhere on West Maui, make the effort to drive up to the Plantation House. Located near the Pro Shop for the Plantation Golf Course, the Plantation House décor and view are worth the visit---the fact that the food is noteworthy is just a plus. There are teak tables, chairs carved with pineapple motifs (this was once part of a huge pineapple plantation), and a double-sided fireplace. If you go for dinner, don't miss the sunset and views of Molokai and the ocean in the distance. Owners Roy Dunn and Michael Hooks brought in executive chef Alex Stanislaw who mixes combinations of Island and Mediterranean flavors with a deft hand. We recommend his Island-style sashimi appetizer, any one of the fresh salads and the fresh fish (prepared in six different ways). For desserts, chocolate lovers won't be able to pass up the "brownie to da max." There is a good selection of wines by the glass. Be sure to make reservations if you want a table at sunset.
