Kahana Sands Restaurant Description:
Open air restaurant near the swimming pools of the Kahana Sands condo. Ocean view. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Opened in 2005, with new chef-owner, new decor, new menu, replacing the Kahana Terrace restaurant that was formerly at this location.
Once a casual poolside hangout, this open-air restaurant is a largely undiscovered treasure on Maui's upper west side. Well-known Maui chef Raul Bermudez has created a menu with a surprisingly sophisticated selection of entrées for all meals of the day, with the island-requisite influence of seafood dominant. For a decadent breakfast, try the homemade buttermilk biscuits and roasted pasilla gravy with sausage and eggs; the Chef's "Ultimate" banana, peanut butter and chocolate chip pancakes; or the special crêpe of the day. Lunch is all about steamed artichokes with Asiago and herb crumb topping, but the duck tostada and paniolo pork sandwich with orange-mango barbecue sauce are also very good. Banana-crusted chicken breast; smoked-bacon-wrapped filet mignon with Boursin cheese, creamy potato and truffle sauce; and four preparations of fresh fish are also offered nightly. The Kahana Sands caters to leisurely meals, with both breakfast and lunch served later than anyplace else on Maui---breakfast until 2 p.m., lunch until 5 p.m.
