Shamiana Restaurant Description:
Overlook the shopping strip setting and go for the flavorful cuisine served in lovely candle-lit surroundings. Owned by an American brother and sister who grew up in a foreign service family in the part of Pakistan that is now Bangladesh, Shamiana offers South Asian food prepared with a Pacific Northwest twist. The two-tiered, L-shaped space is whimsically decorated with colorful Pakistani footwear. Start with samosas---light pastry pockets stuffed with cumin-laced ground lamb---or crisp vegetable cutlets and, of course, buttery pillows of naan. Each is perfect for dipping into a quartet of complex and fiery condiments, such as the vibrant coriander chutney. Although we are fans of the beef vindaloo and Major Grey's chicken curry, the vegetarian dishes are irresistible. Don't miss the aloo dum kashmiri, potatoes that reach nirvana with the help of yogurt, onion, tomato and assorted spices. We also recommend the affordable weekday buffet.
