Sushi Rock Description:
Modern and cool, this tiny restaurant in the little plantation town of Hawi serves sushi rolls and entrées. The sushi bar seats about seven, there are only a handful of tables inside and on an outside porch, and the service is somewhat slow. All this is because you are dining as if with a personal chef. Rio Miceli takes your order, prepares your meal on the spot, and is likely to bring it to you as well. Owner Peter Pomeranz is often on hand to chat with customers. We like the contemporary, local ingredient flair of the menu, and recommend the nori komi-crusted seared ahi for starters, followed by an organic salad with baked macadamia nut goat cheese and seared wild sockeye salmon. Sushi Rock is not inexpensive, but it is one of the few places up in this part of the Island with carefully thought out dishes and some pretty good beers and wines.
