Pahu I'a Restaurant Description:
Waves lap onto the beach steps away from an outdoor terrace at this oh-so-romantic oceanfront restaurant, where the sunsets alone are worth a reservation or two. Breakfasts are served as well, but it is the evening menu and atmosphere that have given Pahu i'a its name. Inside, a 36-square-foot aquarium casts an otherworldly light across the tables. In usual Four Seasons style, the service is impeccable. This is where we order a fine Loire Pouilly Fumé by the glass from the excellent wine list while deciding what to eat. The cuisine is contemporary, ocean-inspired, and makes the most out of fresh island ingredients. A prix-fixe menu changes weekly. We favor the slow-baked macadamia nut-crusted mahi mahi with wilted spinach. From just down the street comes Kona Cold lobster, served here poached, with a lemon grass-lime emulsion and delicate ravioli. Vegetarians find carefully designed menu items such as truffle-butternut squash risotto with wild mushrooms and shaved Parmesan. Take your time to study the wine list, or skip straight to the last page where rare wines and vintages appear, such as a Château Margaux 1995. Save room for warm Valrhona bitter chocolate cake.
