Located just off the Asti to Alba road, Il Cascinalenuovo is a cheerful family-run restaurant with elegant minimalist decor and Piedmontese cuisine in the finest tradition. Specialities include pumpkin risotto, carpaccio of goose liver with white Alba truffle, rum rice with sausage, hand-made ravioli, and braised Piedmontese beef in Barbera d'Asti with polenta croutons.
The wine list is particularly strong in Barbarescos, Barolos and Barberas - but with 20,000 bottles in the cellar, there's plenty to choose from.
