The family-run "Da Elsa", just to the north-east of the village of Calosso, is without doubt a big hit with the locals - parking can be a problem at lunchtime on Sundays. Don't be put off by the decor: the charm is distinctly 1970's vintage, in spite of the ancient exterior. As soon you sit down you experience a never-ending cascade of local dishes, presented with a friendly smile. There's no need to order: just pass on the dishes you don't want, or can't manage - and there will certainly be a few of the latter! The wine list is comprehensive, and if you don't finish a bottle, they will cork it for you to take home.
