Public Landing Description:
This is a classic building---a 160-year-plus-old gem with limestone walls and great arching windows. Add to that fine American food and first-rate service, and you have one of the best south suburban restaurants. There's much ado here about regional American cooking---Lake Superior whitefish en papillote, for example---but we've enjoyed creations like house-made blackened chicken spring rolls, which hardly fall into that category. You might also encounter lobster-stuffed ravioli in Alfredo sauce, citrus-glazed Long Island duckling and free-range chicken breast stuffed with andouille sausage, smoked Gouda and spinach. If it happens to be available, don't miss the bread pudding with whiskey sauce. There's a pretty courtyard patio, so be sure to ask for a table outside when it's warm.
