Istanbul Grill and Deli Description:
This simple little eatery in the Village is the only Turkish restaurant in town. The handsome brick oven turns out pide (a puffy, dense bread sprinkled with sesame seeds). The Shepherd's Salad---a cool mix of minced cucumbers, tomatoes, green peppers and onions tossed with olive oil and vinegar and sprinkled with feta---is a perfect blend of refreshing, flavorful ingredients. Fans of Middle Eastern food will find the familiar with hummus, grape leaves, some fine treatments of eggplant and well-executed kebabs. But we do recommend trying the uniquely Turkish items. The lahmacun is one of our favorites, with finely chopped lamb and a mix of tomato, green pepper, parsley and garlic spread over a thin and crisp hand-rolled dough, served straight from the oven. The prices are as appealing as the unique food. The pastries, rich Turkish coffee and strong, soothing Turkish tea complement any meal.
