Maunakea Marketplace Description:
Located in the middle of Honolulu's intriguing (and slightly seedy) Chinatown district, the Maunakea Marketplace is a great place to go for an inexpensive, authentic Asian or Hawaii Regional meal. The marketplace is short on creature comforts---narrow tables and stools in the narrow aisle---but here much of the food is fresh cooked and quite exotic. When was the last time you had larb (an Indonesian dish with browned beef, cilantro, lime and peppers) or guisantes (a Filipino stew with pork, peas and a host of other vegetables)? There's everything here from Hong Kong roast duck noodles to sushi. Things are so cheap you can afford to experiment. Afterwards wander through the produce stalls or go outside to the handsome brick courtyard surrounded by shops selling Asian wares under the watchful gaze of Confucius.
