Alan Wong's Description:
Alan Wong's remains one of the hottest restaurants in Honolulu. Wong is one of the three kings (along with Roy Yamaguchi and George Mavrothalassitis) of Hawaii Regional cuisine. It's not the setting that makes the place---the restaurant, though Cal-bistro pleasant inside, is on the fifth floor of an undistinguished office building. Only the crowded valet parking downstairs tips off its location. Inside, it's the food that matters. Wong developed his pyrotechnic style at CanoeHouse on the Big Island. Expect unexpected collisions of cultures and flavors. While the menu is constantly changing, there are some classics well worth trying, like the tomato soup and sandwich, a simple combination of three colors of purée of Big Island tomatoes, served chilled, but we encourage you to venture out into some of the daily specials, which could be a steamed moi with pork hash, gingered vegetables and soy truffle nage or foie gras with li hing mui chutney. Chef de cuisine Derek Watanabe and his team also have a way with seafood; look for smoked butterfish and ginger-crusted onaga with miso-sesame vinaigrette. The wine list is carefully crafted to complement the cuisine---many whites and Rieslings pair well---and the staff is confident in their recommendations.

Review :
We enjoy dining at A/W's regularly and find his menu is creative and interesting. One of the memorable dishes recently was the Torchon of Foie Gras w/ Toro (Blue-fin Belly). I highly recommend the Farmer's dinner which occurs every few months. The Chef's Tasting Menu is always interesting and dependable.
