Review :
Cousins has the best buy for the money. One of the last bastions with homecut fries and if you are there at the right time, you will see the fries being cut at the back table in full view. The fish is battered (pancake) and very fresh due to high-volume sales on this popular treat. I recomment you try the liver and onions with mashed, another personal favourite. This family restaurant has been owned by the Greek, naturalized-Canadian family for at least 30 years and the son who works there grew up learning the food and customers over the course of that time.
For ambience: start with the copper ceilings which are original although unfortunately covered with layers of paint throughout the years. There is a wooden backdrop behind the front counter that is gorgeous. There have been at least 2 Tom Selleck movies filmed here because this place is a classic that has been barely touched with renovations. This restaurant is complete original vintage with barstools that line the restaurant from front to back. Although the owners have slowed down a bit due to age and years of hard work, the customers still frequent this gem of a restaurant and keep them moving as quickly as possible.
This "Mom and Pop" place is great value for the money and definitely worth a sample (again and again). The menu has a good variety which would appeal to the discriminating palate and is kind to the pocketbook. I recommend "eat in" for the true essence of the Mom/Pop experience although there is take-out for those "on-the-go". Mary Lee M.
