Jack's River Pub Description:
Jack's River Pub & Grill, or merely "Jack's" is situated beside the Bear River which divides Evanston's northern and southern sections. This makes Jack's a great place to have an evening cocktail/beer/wine/whatever and observe the local wild-life. In recent years, it has also become a favorite watering hole for weary travelers passing through. It is situated close to I-80 and has several reasonably priced hotels nearby. It has also become the official headquarters of the "Memorial Day Freedom Rally". This three day biker rally has earned Jack's some notoriety among both locals and bikers.
The restaurant has two very distinct sections - the main bar and the game room/lounge. The bar area is decorated in traditional sports bar fashion while the game room is slightly more minimalist, but is equipped with pool tables and dart boards. Wherever you sit, the environment is meant for socializing and drinking. While neither are mutually exclusive, there is plenty of room for both. Non-smokers will be surprised to know that even though the bar allows smoking in all areas, the bar is not smoky. It appears the building has a very good ventilation system, so non-smokers will be quite comfortable.
Jack's carries a traditional menu list of bar favorites, such as hot wing's, hamburgers, appetizer platters, etc. The cost is very reasonable and the portions can easily feed you and your drinking buddy.
