Café Amano is situated in a redo of a bank building in downtown Elmhurst, and the atmosphere is surprisingly smashing. The menu features a slew of coffee creations, soups, sandwiches and salads. Standouts include an interesting assortment of cheeses and fruit, escargots strudel and smoked salmon and leek tart. We go nuts over the Niçoise baguette, which is served open-face and is flavor-alive with albacore tuna, hard-boiled eggs, haricots verts and greens with kalamata olives and a lemon vinaigrette that adds extra oomph. There's also a big selection of fruit tarts and gelati. Each wine on the tidy list can be had by the glass or bottle.
