I loved this cabin so much, I ignored the reviews I read about Sandy, figuring that I deal with Old Ukranian men quite often. He was actually okay to deal with, so we booked our June 26th, 2010 wedding there in May of 2009. We dropped off our deposit in October when Sandy had told us to. I'd love to rave about how great the food was and how we had a beautiful wedding but Sandy called us early April to let us know that we were double booked and couldn't have our wedding there anymore. He could let us have the friday night or the Saturday before, which would have been great had he told us when we were booking the wedding in the first place, instead of after we had booked every single other aspect of the wedding and sent out all of our invitations. He refunded our deposit in cash, but provided no other compensation even though he cost us thousands in wasted invitations, postage, and having to scramble and find a new place at the last minute. Not only that, the Pioneer Society called us later to say they had written us a cheque for the deposit without realising Sandy had paid us already, and could we please return it to them when we got it.
The worst decision I ever made was choosing the Pioneer Cabin for our wedding. However, the Polish Veteran's Hall, and their manager Mark, managed to squeeze us into a cancelled spot and threw us the most beautiful, fun and delcious wedding reception I've ever been to- everyone is still talking about it! Avoid Sandy and the Old Timer's cabin, it's not worth it. If I could choose no stars for everything, I would.

So, I stopped by the venue only to take a look at the room. Sandy was quite stern and aggressive with me. He was judgmental of everything I had to say and doubtful of whether or not I could afford the venue (which I absolutely can) . I snapped at him before I left, but Im also sorry to say the venue looked perfect for our occasion and we may actually end up booking it in spite of his lack of tact and awful attitude.

My sister had her wedding at with Sandy, and everything was amazing! He helped my sister out (over the call of duty), and as someone else commented he was like a wedding planner...for free! The cost wasn't too bad, and who can beat the beautiful view of the river valley from the balconey. The food was also amazing! As I am recently engaged, I have also booked my wedding venue with Sandy, and if you want a stress-free planning (for your reception), great food, awesome advice and a beautiful view I would book yours with him too!

The food was fantastic, and everyone who attended has told me over and over again that it was one of the best weddings that they have ever been to. The atmosphere was beautiful and exactly what we wanted- festive and welcoming. Sandy helped us tremendously, down to the very fine details and we had a wonderful experience working with him. We joke that he was our very own wedding planner, included with the venue! The value was excellent. We had a tight budget but we had a beautiful wedding for a very reasonable price. I can't imagine him behaving the ways described in the other reviews, but who knows...I can only speak to my own great experience.

The food was good, but Sandy is a nightmare to deal with. He cancelled our rehearsal dinner the night before so he could book a larger group(more $), he kept trying to put our DJ on stage prior to our wedding ceremony (wouldn't work for pictures), him and his wife had me bawling more than once, he yelled orders at our DJ and minister, pulled the wine off the tables and started charging our guests for it, took the food away before guests could get seconds, didn't take our cake until we finally asked him to cut it, overcharged us, and threatened to cancel my wedding the night before the event. Will never go there again!!

The food was awesome, if you can handle Sandy yelling at you all night. He had my Bride in tears for what was supposed to be our special day. We had 200 guests but they refused to set out more than 180 chairs. And our wedding cake wasn't even served! I will never book an event with them again!
