Kon Asian Bistro Description:
Stylish and seductive, Kon tempts even the most dedicated urbanite to venture into the suburbs for an evening of sushi, Japanese-style barbecue and Thai curry dishes. A nondescript façade in an East Greenwich shopping center gives way to a smartly designed front dining area dominated by a large sitting Buddha reflecting upon a pool. Behind that lies a communal teppanyaki room offering the usual choices of grilled steak, chicken, shrimp and vegetables as well as salmon and lobster tails (or a combination thereof). It's a familiar formula---sides include miso soup, salad with ginger dressing, fried rice and a shrimp appetizer---but the food is well-executed. What's especially nice is you can order items from the hibachi even if you're sitting in the front dining room, ideal for those nights when you don't feel like sharing your table with a group of strangers. Sushi portions are generous and, if none of the entrées are particularly transcendent, you'll still get a nice meal at a fair price. The fact that eating here may make you feel young and cool, too---Kon converts to a nightclub with a live DJ on weekend nights---is an off-menu special.
