RedRocks Firebrick Pizzeria Description:
With much fanfare and adding a touch of trendiness to the Columbia Heights neighborhood, RedRocks opened up in a converted stone house just a few short strides from busy 14th St. NW. As for the pizzas, none really rate a "remarkable," for the kitchen sticks to the typical, classic toppings: tomato, pepperoni, cheese, pesto and sausage. The only topping that sidesteps the usual is that of chicken and broccolini, but even here, the flavors don't have enough oomph for a second order. What does rate a thumbs-up is the crust, for the kitchen staff makes it fresh daily and never chills it, so what you get is the fully developed flavor. If pizza doesn't intrigue you, try one of the sandwiches---these are not heroes---or just order several of the burrata buffalo, the starter salad of baby arugula tossed with balsamic vinegar and topped with a ball of fresh buffalo-milk mozzarella.
