This Detroit neighborhood spot is a few blocks from Wayne State University, and it isn't afraid to try something new. And you might just like the dragon's eggs, blue-cheese-stuffed chicken breast coated with tempura batter, tossed in Jamaican Hellfire sauce and served atop Caesar salad. Not your speed? Try the pistachio-encrusted salmon salad. The not-as-adventurous can choose from ribs, chicken salad, hamburgers and pasta. One kid favorite, Scooby Doo Pasta, is egg pasta with chicken and vegetables in Alfredo sauce. The bar, which stocks more than 100 beers, gets crowded on weekends---it's a beacon for late-night co-eds. Oilcloth tablecloths, bad acoustics, an uneven wooden floor and rickety chairs give this place character.
