Roma Café Description:
Calling itself Detroit's oldest restaurant (it opened in 1890), this wonderful Italian eatery just about does everything right. Accolades go to the salads with zingy dressing and the homemade pastas with just the right amount of thick, rich tomato sauce. In rooms paneled with the same stuff your dad hung in the basement, seasoned waiters weave in and out of tables, racking up dozens of miles a day running around the old two-level space that was reputed to have at one time been a brothel. The menu is huge---seafood, steaks, veal---and there's an Italian buffet on Monday nights. Expect elbow-to-elbow crowds on Detroit Red Wings hockey nights.
