Something of a Detroit institution, Mr. Mike's keeps on plugging along, maintaining a slice of hospitality and subdued elegance since 1936 on an otherwise undistinguished part of Woodward Avenue. When we're in need of a nice lunch---some real, solid food served efficiently in an atmosphere that makes the working world seem a thousand miles away---we come here. Others seem to come specifically to do business. Mr. Mike's comfortably goes either way. The specialties are often topnotch, especially the lamb shank, short ribs of beef and pork chops. But don't neglect the regular entrées, which include stalwarts such as veal Marsala, English-cut fish 'n' chips, butterfly shrimp, catfish and the house baked lasagna. If you're leaning a little lighter, scan the sandwich list or dig into a salad. Then, after lunch or after work, take a turn at the bar. Relax. Enjoy. This is your kind of place.
