Authenticity is the hallmark of this Mexican spot. Inside, the aroma of chilies, lime, onions and tomatoes is in the air. The menu includes the familiar tortilla specialties, from botanas and nachos to tacos and enchiladas, but you'll also find more interesting dishes like carne de puerco con calabacitas (a pork stew made with tomatillos and zucchini); beef tripe soup; and caldo de pescado, which is brimming with potatoes, cauliflower and catfish. The chiles rellenos are superior---dark poblano peppers stuffed with meat or cheese and offset by ranchero sauce. The bar provides made-to-order margaritas and house-made sangría as well as a non-alcoholic option---tropical fruit smoothies. The fare transcends the unpretentious setting---a sturdy brick structure awash in colorful murals of Mexican country scenes.
