Antonio's Cucina Italiana Description:
This is one of metro Detroit's best Italian restaurants. And in a city with some great Italian eateries, that's saying a lot. Run by Antonio Rugiero Jr., whose family has also run Dearborn's Roman Village since 1964, Antonio's is consistently satisfying. The interior is unassuming with booths lining the outer walls, but the food speaks volumes. Portions are huge, so couples can order one entrée, split the salad, share a half-carafe from the small, affordable wine list and leave spending little over $20. Try the vegetarian pizza topped with cheese, peppers, onions, green olives, sliced tomatoes and Parmesan. Our favorite, though, is the gnocchi with marinara sauce and a side of house-made meatballs or sweet Italian sausage. (Pastas and gnocchi are made in the dining room's pasta booth.) Eggplant Parmigiana also is a treat. Hot, fresh, endless baskets of bread brushed with olive oil, as well as salad, come with entrées. The limited wine selection is served by the glass, half carafe or full carafe.
