Set in a renovated storefront in one of the oldest areas of Dallas, Hattie's is a stylish and inviting spot with a menu that's a blend of upscale Southern charmers, a little Mediterranean inspiration, and a splash of new American seasonal cooking. And it is all pulled off with great success. The must-have appetizer is the broiled figs wrapped in prosciutto and stuffed with blue cheese and walnuts. These little blackened marbles offer up an intense mix of salt, sweet, nutty and tangy flavors. Or try the pecan-crusted farm-raised catfish atop a mound of scallion-infused mashed potatoes. The menu changes every six weeks or so, but the figs and catfish are staples as well as the richly flavored lamb chops. The fried green tomatoes are a thing of beauty, crisp little discs of tart tomatoes served piping hot. Bacon-wrapped salmon, peppered pork chops and crab cakes also fit the bill. Arrive early to hone your appetite with a stroll around this hip neighborhood.
