Some trips to Central 214 haven't quite dazzled as one might hope for given its reputation and the price. The menus are touted as "seasonal" and "extensive," but it's hard to pinpoint exactly why. The single-page dinner menu features rather standard fare, such as smoked brisket and grilled pizza---hardly seasonal or uncommon. On the other hand, the fried items, such as the chicken-fried oysters with lemony garlic sauce, are zesty and appealing. The sides of gourmet mac 'n' cheese and apple-thyme bread pudding are satisfyingly rich, and tempting desserts such as Kahlúa chocolate cupcake round things out nicely. For the optimal dining experience, stick with what Central 214 does best.
