The restaurant gets its name from its two owners---Newport Syndicate owner John Whalen and Newport Police Captain Phillip Liles. Stylishly simple, John Phillips Restaurant & Bar features black-tinted window shades and little lamps suspended from the ceiling which almost make you forget you're in a shopping mall. Fresh seafood is the specialty here with favorites being the raw bar shrimp and oysters, crab cakes, blackened salmon and cashew-crusted halibut.
