Very popular Bar & Grill, large portions of American cuisine including sandwiches, appetizers, subs, wings, salads, beer, fried pickles and mixed drinks. The specialty of the house is a very thick 28-oz (1.6 lb) cheeseburger filling enough for two. Dark bar type atmosphere with long bar along one wall, televisions and booths/tables on the opposite sticker-decor wall, customers are a mix of blue collar and white collar workers. Can be difficult to find a seat at times, so arrive early for lunch or dinner. Open for lunch, dinner and late night. A popular neighborhood bar and grill since 1938.
A popular German Village hangout since 1938, this modest bar and eatery is famous for its hamburgers---particularly its 28-ounce signature patty. Yep, you read that right: nearly two pounds of meaty, juice-dripping glory. The head honcho is overloaded with ham, mozzarella, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, sautéed onions, pickles, peppers and mayo. Once you can handle that one by yourself, you can move on to entire tri-tips or beef roasts. Among the pizza "thins," try the sauce-less white pie made with a garlic crust, a generous portion of mozzarella and extra garlic for good measure. (We like ours topped with mushrooms and pepperoni.) The small, sticker-festooned interior of this place always fills up fast, so arrive early and expect a wait for a decent-size table.
