Arnold's Bar & Grill offers a Recession Buster Lunch Menu: $4.99 midday specials, like blackened tilapia tacos or Cincinnati-style lentils over pasta with onions, cheddar cheese and oyster crackers. Whatever you settle on, Arnold's has plenty to wash it all down. The charming bar has been serving up suds and sights since 1861. It looks the part of old-time watering hole, too, with its tall, wooden booths and sepia walls jammed with old photographs and random memorabilia. Out back, a hidden courtyard offers a mellow urban oasis. Up the steep stairs, you can dine next to the bathtub that remains from the time the proprietors lived over the bar; legend says it was used for bathtub gin. The kitchen goes beyond pub grub to offer hearty Italian dinners involving long-simmered tomato sauces; favored Greek spaghetti, olive-oiled, garlicky and tossed with bacon and olives; and more ambitious nightly specials. You'll feel like a regular by the time the screen door slams shut behind you.
