Carnations sprout in vintage Coke bottles and Marilyn, Elvis and Lucy smile down from the walls of this repository of 1950s nostalgia in bustling downtown Chula Vista. The atmosphere is kitschy but the cooking, offered in large portions at reasonable prices, is serious. Daily specials---which never vary, so you know to expect stuffed bell peppers on Monday---include such comfort-food classics as beef-macaroni goulash, Greek-style baked chicken, accompanied by the likes of buttermilk buscuits and mashed potatoes and brown gravy. The spacious back patio, one of the few open-air dining settings in town, is a bonus.
