Rocky & Carlo's Description:
If the waitress (yes, they still call themselves "waitresses" here) calls you darlin' and sits down next to you if she needs a little break, don't be surprised. Rocky & Carlo's is as casual as it could possibly be, and located behind a storefront that could as easily be a hardware store as a restaurant. Still, people from New Orleans routinely take the 30-minute drive to the remote hamlet of Chalmette for creamy, spicy Italian comfort food. Portions are immense, and are served up with a bare minimum of fuss or fancy from a line of steam trays. Mainstays include fried shrimp and oyster plates, jambalaya, spaghetti with meatballs, braccioloni (stuffed and rolled veal breast), onion rings, baked macaroni with brown gravy or tomato sauce, potato salad and po' boy sandwiches.
