Owner Anthony Athanas was a Boston legend whose grand old seafooder on the water still bears his colorful stamp. Just check out the photos in the foyer showing the hundreds of celebrities who've come to dine here over the decades. For that matter, check out the up-close-and-personal views of Boston Harbor and the treasure trove of a wine list---they're enough to keep this place running for another 50 years. And the food? The kitchen has hit peaks and troughs over the years, to be sure. But when it's on an even keel, you can get a much better meal than you'd expect from a tourist destination. Though the huge menu makes some contemporary moves, its roots are in old-school New England and Continental-style fare, and so are your best bets---including house-smoked salmon, rich baked stuffed lobster and imported Dover sole meunière. And we're tickled by all the fixings, from the house-marinated mushrooms that kick off the meal to, of course, those famous, piping-hot popovers.
