Industrial chic meets a playful mood at 26, as a panel of lights behind the bar change from purple to aqua to green. A water-sculpture mosaic is set against undulating curves at this fun, slightly edgier sister restaurant to Ocean, located next door. Front panels may be rolled up for an open-air effect in good weather. The cuisine is creative with Asian and Southern flavors. Lunch might be a wood-fired chicken potpie or Thai-spiced beef tenderloin. A chicken satay salad is nicely presented with skewers crossed over a bed of romaine, crunchy slaw, cashews and oranges. Dinner ranges from a three-cheese burger with truffle fries to Chang Mei wok-seared ahi with vegetable lo mein and pea tendrils. Or consider the tempting menu of sushi rolls, including spicy tuna tempura bonbons and a wasabi pea-crusted tempura lobster roll. Dessert might be a silky chocolate pot de crème with chai cookies or a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich with house-made ice cream. There's a bar menu from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. and a late-night menu on Friday and Saturday nights until midnight. Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., there are $2 and $6 drink and appetizer specials. On Wednesdays, there are complimentary wine tastings with bottles tasted at half price. By the way, 26 refers to the day of the month both of the sons of owners George and Harriet Reis were born.
