The Range Café Description:
The Range Café has become an institution, with two locations in Albuquerque to round out the original in Bernalillo (where the Lizard Rodeo Lounge lines up live blues, jazz and country acts). It's renowned not just for its bodacious portions of hearty, Mexican-accented American food but for the quirky sense of humor evident not least in the colorful décor (think tables painted with clouds and guitars lining the walls). The Range's French cinnamon-raisin toast stuffed with bananas and strawberries and served with apple-peach butter is a favorite for breakfast; later in the day, starters like green chile chicken stew and fried green chile strips with jalapeño dipping sauce are good for a change from the legendary burgers. On a menu as wide-ranging as this, vegetarians naturally have a number of options, including a portobello mushroom sandwich made with grilled red onions and jalapeño aïoli. If you can, save room for dessert, especially the aptly named Death by Lemon cake. Also located at 4401 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, 505-293-2633; and 2200 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, 505-888-1660.
