With an older sister location on Capitol Hill, this Monsoon East presents the same contemporary spin on Vietnamese cuisine, but with a slightly larger menu and a full bar with Asian-inspired cocktails. The chic décor, elegant muslin curtains, and moody lighting create a tranquil oasis. Dishes are artistically composed and easy to share. Oyster lovers will be drawn to the raw bar, which also features sushi. Happily, the menu includes many signature dishes from the original restaurant, including crisp drunken chicken and the tasty bo la lot beef, which wraps peppery leaves around flank steak and then grills the tasty morsels. Monsoon's chefs take familiar pork spare ribs to new heights of succulence. For adventurous palates, try Monterey squid that's stuffed with duck meat, basil and jícama, and then grilled. A Vietnamese bouillabaisse includes mussels, clams, prawns, Dungeness crab and squid. Don't miss the moist banana cake with coconut sauce for dessert.
