The Courtyard Restaurant Description:
The restaurant's claim to fame is its illustrious location alongside the Forbidden City's moat, a magical sight at night with bats sky-diving, locals fishing and the Imperial red walls of the palace as a backdrop. But unless you're seated on one of the three window seats you won't get much of a view. The restaurant itself is very classy and packed with expatriates and out-of-towners; service can be a tad snooty. Like many of Beijing's top restaurants, which sell themselves on their design or their location, the food is often overpriced, so expect good fusion fare but nothing fabulous. For starters, try the Peking duck lumpia which has a tangy orange-pineapple drizzle, while the cashew-crusted lamb rack, with a side serving of mint yogurt, also gets the thumbs-up. The chocolate mud cake is a wicked yet solid bet for dessert.
