Haitanghua Pyongyang Description:
This North Korean restaurant is the closest you're probably going to get to the hermit kingdom with an American passport. Don't come here for the food---which is a blander version of South Korean fare---but for the kitsch factor. Waitresses are dressed either in electric blue flight attendant suits or in sparkling hanbok, the baggy national dress for women, and are more than charming. Some of them sing to diners in the evening. You can order dog meat, hunks of black beef and cold noodles as well as the ubiquitous kimchi, which is not as zesty as it could be. Wash it down with some soju, which along with the rest of the menu is overpriced. But, hey, it comes from North Korea.
