Jack's Bistro Description:
With a name that references a seventies sitcom (Three's Company) and décor that suggests the fifties, one might expect Jack's Bistro to be playfully eclectic. And one would be right. The Canton restaurant exudes fun and draws patrons with sophisticated takes on American comfort food, seasoned with ever-changing ethnic elements. Chef-owner Ted Stelzenmuller's inventiveness can veer into over-the-top wackiness, which occasionally works (yes, macaroni and cheese with chocolate actually tastes good) but sometimes falls flat. The best dishes are the least fussed with, such as shrimp in a simple but rich Spanish garlic sauce. The restaurant has also jumped on the sous vide bandwagon in a big way, and if you're interested in this cooking method, which simmers ingredients slowly in plastic bags, here's the place to sample the results. The service is consistently topnotch, with the attention to detail of a fine-dining place and the friendliness of a neighborhood hangout. Jack's, to its credit, is both.
