Henninger's Tavern Description:
Henninger's is the opposite of a "flavor of the month" restaurant. It's been around for decades, offering predictably first-rate three-olive martinis in the comfy bar up front, and surprisingly fine dining in the atmospheric dining room. Surprising, because this does not look like a fine-dining sort of place. Agreeably funky in the traditional Fells Point mode, with a whole flea market's worth of miscellanea decorating the walls, the former speakeasy looks made for pub grub and sea shanties. What diners will find, though, is such soigné fare as petite lamb chops with hummus and baby greens served in a martini glass, fried oysters with Pernod cream, sea scallops with a tangy cilantro-and-citrus corn relish, and one of the city's best crab cakes, lavished with luscious basil aïoli. Desserts are impressive, too, as is the well-timed service. Because of its longevity and consistency, Henninger's is often taken for granted, but it deserves a fresh look.
