Don't let the lowercase fool you. The Bolton Hill bistro may be dubbed, simply, b, but its provenance---its owners are the folks behind Helmand and Tapas Teatro---is a clue that behind the cozy diminutive is some serious fine dining. The contemporary American-Mediterranean menu, which offers a daily risotto, pasta, meat and seafood dishes, has some standouts, including the house ravioli, stuffed with garden peas and chèvre and lavished with lemon brown butter, and pan-roasted diver scallops with creamy turnip "polenta." But b never forgets it's a neighborhood eatery, too. Fresh-dough pizzas, sandwiches under $10, and a children's menu welcome local drop-ins, and tall windows put Bolton Hill's lovely Victorian architecture on display. In warm weather, the outdoor tables are much sought-after.
