Akbar Description:
Like fraternal twins, the two Akbars share the same menu, but have their own personalities. Downtown is cozier and the flavors more ephemeral, while the Columbia location pumps up the volume, using deeply roasted spices in its masalas. Both offer better-than-average Northern Indian fare. You can't go wrong with standards like roghan josh or paneer, the house-made cheese, in a thick tomato curry spiked with cilantro. Try the chicken chaat roused with mango powder and tamarind sauce for a refreshing cold starter and absolutely end with the kulfi falooda, an iced dessert of sweetened milk infused with ground pistachios and a hint of rosewater. The daily lunch buffet is fresh and bountiful.
