Sauté Restaurant & Bar Description:
In tough times or boom years, the restaurants that flourish are those that can serve a variety of purposes, from after-work hangout to big-date venue. Sauté is one of these, a classy chameleon with a relaxed-yet-polished vibe and food that ventures from pizza and wings to elegant fine-dining creations. While the former are very good---those wings are house-smoked---we like the lower price-point items most for helping subsidize the more soigné fare. The light fare list, which includes tempura crab with assorted aïolis, pulled-duck nachos, and peppercorn-and-juniper carpaccio, is temptingly eclectic, and the contemporary American dishes are uniformly well prepared. We recommend the seafood dishes, such as the Parmesan fried oysters with balsamic-kissed French bean salad and black sesame seed-crusted salmon atop seafood risotto. The bar and dining room are handsome in a cool, sexy, masculine way---"Mad Men" gone modern.
