Mr. Rain's Fun House Description:
The top-floor restaurant at the American Visionary Art Museum no longer has its splendid harbor view, now dominated by high-priced condos. But you might not notice, as there's so much to look at inside. The restaurant, now Mr. Rain's Fun House, is decorated in true AVAM spirit, with vibrant colors, light-catching bits of mirror, and playful artworks from the museum's permanent collection. As one might expect, the menu is unorthodox, too, but in the hands of chef Bill Buszinski even such dubious-sounding ideas as purple yam soup and Stilton cheesecake turn out to be notable. The menu is seasonal and changeable, but you might luck into pheasant sausage and grilled shrimp bedded on Manchego-cheese grits, golden beets with Ukrainian forest-mushroom dumplings, or a ginger-laced bouillabaisse. The servers wear cute Western shirts, but even better, are knowledgeable and passionate about food.
