Years ago, the Colonnade's resident restaurant was the Polo Grill, a scenester's mecca. Since then, the space has been home to a handful of ambitious eateries, none of which set the town on fire. However, we're happy to say that the "curse" has been broken, big time, by the latest incarnation. The "boutique bistro and wine bar" has been given a modern remodeling: deep reds, rich woods and abstract oils create a sophisticated, unstuffy setting for contemporary fare. Diners will find several touchstones of culinary fashion here---sous vide, homemade charcuterie, smoked dishes, regional sourcing---but one taste of just about anything on the seasonal menu will assure them that classical techniques support each up-to-the-minute trend. While such dishes as seared foie gras with rhubarb preserves and Delft Blue veal chops do not come cheap, gourmets on a budget can find lovely light fare in the bar, prix-fixe specials and monthly half-price burger nights. The dessert list changes frequently, but if you can, try the beignets paired with house-made gelato. A strong wine list includes both reasonably priced and splurge-worthy international selections.
