Ten Degrees South Description:
Owners Justin Anthony and his dad, Derick, are established Atlanta transplants from South Africa. Their dramatic---if a bit loud---restaurant with soaring ceilings and warm lighting can get quite busy on weekend nights. A former dining room has been re-concepted as a sort of tapas bar, with upholstered seating and low-to-the-ground tables. Start with one of the piri-piri-graced appetizers, such as the pair of giant prawns, or perhaps the meaty snails in a garlic cream sauce. We love the boboti, a classic South African dish of ground meat, curry, olives, topped with a cream sauce layer and baked, perhaps South Africa's answer to lasagna or moussaka. Here's where you discover how Pinotage, the unique red wine grape of South Africa, harmonizes with lamb stews and curries. Sosaties (skewers of beef filet with apricot curry sauce), grilled calamari steak and ostrich are the signature dishes, along with Cape Kingclip, the unique finner of Cape waters. For dessert, check out Di's Delight, a sponge cake and fruit combination. The wine list is 90 percent South African, a real treat.
