Pittypat's Porch Description:
Aunt Pittypat was one of the characters in "Gone with the Wind." Always at the point of fainting, she kept her smelling salts constantly at the ready. This restaurant, named for her, purports to capture the feeling of a Southern porch set with rockers. The mint juleps are acceptable---we've had better---but they're not presented in the classic silver cup that some people consider de rigueur. The black-eyed pea cakes are very tasty, and presented with a tangy relish. Fried chicken is the dish to target; the skin is crispy and the meat not at all greasy. Baby-back ribs taste clearly oven-cooked, the texture a bit flabby, but the result is not bad thanks to the sauce. Diners may visit a salad bar, and when doing so, should not miss the pickled watermelon rind. Tourists enjoy this one, but locals seek their classic Southern fare elsewhere.
