One Flew South Description:
Native materials, from the marble on the wall to the pine on the floor, create a dining nook with welcoming bar and comfortable table seating. A mural displays the lush green of a Georgia pine forest. The flavors at One Flew South range from subtle Asian to robust Southern, all chiefly using local and regional ingredients. One could make a visit here simply for some sushi or sashimi and a glass or two of really good Junmai saké before winging off to Japan or Korea. Or indulge in a plate of Sweet Grass Dairy cheeses from Thomasville, Georgia. Well-made signature cocktails, such as the Georgia Bellini, enliven perusing the menu. Start with chef Duane Nutter's take on chicken noodle soup, in this case made with homemade chicken stock, super-thin buckwheat noodles, chicken, crunchy vegetables and the delicate aroma of five-spice powder. Ask for a squeeze of lime to give it just the final lift it needs. Then enjoy a crunchy seaweed salad with sesame oil and thinly shaved radish; a pair of pecan-crusted scallops with arugula sauce; grilled salmon with vegetables; or a teriyaki strip steak with fingerling potatoes. The wine list is quite extensive for this kind of operation, and includes, besides the aforementioned saké offerings, a wide representation of the world's fruit of the vine.
