City Diner Description:
A glass and chrome vision of the 1950s, this concept restaurant was created from the ground up by two well-known local chefs, Al Levinsohn (Kincaid Grill) and Jens Nannestad (Southside Bistro). With no detail overlooked, from flatware to the tiled floor, and even to the bar stools and menu, it's a spot that jumps and jives, serving high end, good basic comfort food the whole family can enjoy. For breakfast, there are omelets, hot cakes, and Huevos Spenardos, the local name for the spicy Southern classic. For lunch or dinner we recommend the open-face turkey sandwich with creamy smashed potatoes. Another favorite is the "Moby Micks'" sandwich that combines fried Alaska halibut, cheddar cheese, lettuce, pickles and tartar sauce on a bun. Choose fries, a green salad, soup or pineapple slaw (crisp and tangy ) to round out your order. Kids will like the hot dogs with fries, and kids of all ages will insist on ordering milkshakes, a house specialty. Though not a bar, wine is served in tumblers with beer also available.
